Mason Color has supplied high-performance ceramic pigments for over 40 years, used in pottery, artware, bricks, sanitary ware, and roofing materials.

Mixing pigments
Most stains can be mixed, but some are incompatible. If results vary, consult Mason Color.

Pinks and crimsons
Require specific glaze chemistry: high calcium, low zinc and magnesia, and controlled boron. Best results come in an oxidizing firing.

Purple turning blue
Often due to insufficient calcium to support red tones in chrome-tin and cobalt blends.

Black stains for grey
Black stains contain multiple oxides, so low percentages may shift colour. Use dedicated grey stains instead.

Green turning brown
Zinc can cause chromium greens to brown. Remove zinc and increase calcium if needed.

Fuzzy blue underglaze
Cobalt silicate can run; use cobalt aluminate or lower firing temperature.

Milky glaze
Caused by excess boron, under-firing, or too much opacifier (over 2%).

Safety
Harmful if inhaled. May irritate eyes and skin. Avoid dust and contact, use ventilation and protective gear, and wash after handling. Keep sealed and away from food. Refer to the current GHS Safety Data Sheet.
