A Dedicated Space to Grow Your Practice

The Clay Centre Members Area is a dedicated co-working clay studio designed for independent makers ready to take their ceramic practice further. Membership gives you access to wheels, hand-building areas, glazing facilities, and professional equipment during open hours. To join, you’ll need some prior clay experience, including an understanding of bisque and glaze firings and confidence glazing your own work. Completing one of our 5-week beginner courses is perfect preparation. Simply fill out a Membership Application Form and we’ll be in touch to arrange your induction.

Wheels, Workspaces & Equipment

Our members’ studio is fully equipped with 16 pottery wheels, bookable in convenient 3-hour slots through an easy online platform. There’s plenty of space for hand-building, including large communal tables and a Cowley slab roller for bigger projects. Each member has dedicated shelving for works in progress and storage. Once pieces are ready for bisque or glaze firing, they can be placed on our kiln shelves. Everything is set up to make your studio time smooth, productive, and inspiring.

Kilns & Glazing Facilities

The Clay Centre Members Area is home to two large electric kilns used to fire members’ work on a simple weigh-and-pay basis. We also provide 12 specially formulated studio glazes, consistently mixed and tested, allowing you to create up to 144 unique combinations. Each glaze has its own test tile for inspiration and guidance. For those wanting to explore more advanced surface techniques, we have two pressurised glaze spray booths to help you achieve beautifully even and creative finishes.

Flexible Access That Fits Your Schedule

We know creativity doesn’t always strike between 9 and 5. That’s why the Members Area is open seven days a week from 9:00am to 10:00pm. With coded door entry, you can come and go as you please, no keys required. Book your wheel time online, settle into your own shelf space, and work at your own pace. Whether you’re fitting clay around work, study, or family life, our extended hours make it easy to keep your practice consistent.
